Date: February 24, 2010 Unless you register with the Federal Transit Administration, local transit authorities will be free to operate charters in your area. Registering or re-gistering with the FTA will take five minutes and is the only way you can prevent Transit Agencies from doing charter work in your back yard.
UMA & ABA recommend registering or re-registering as soon as possible, do not wait.
On April 30, 2008, the new Charter Rule went into effect. Operators, who own at least one bus or van and have the legal authority to operate a charter business, should register at FTA's new Charter Registration Website, www.fta.dot.gov/CharterRegistration.
This registration, which replaces the willing and able letters, will last for two years. Again, if you choose not to register, public transit operations in your area are permitted to engage in the charter business.
You must have a valid email address to register with the FTA. If you do not have an email address or require assistance while trying to register, please contact ABA or UMA who will work with you to make sure you are able to register with the FTA.
